Chawali Amti (Black eye beans curry)
Once upon a time when I was deep down in food blog world, I used to follow some really nice blogs, and one of my favourite used to be - one hot stove - do check out it's lovely blog.
This one is Nupur's recipe which I had bookmarked and followed then and today it is our regular dinner item. When I decided to post about it, I had to mention OHS as it's derived from her recipe with some tweaking from our end.

Roast and grind to smooth paste
1 TSP Cumin seeds
1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
1 tbsp Chana dal
1/2 tbsp Urad dal
2 tbsp coriander seeds
3 tbsp grated coconut - I used dessicated
1 small onion sliced
2-3 cloves of garlic

Saute 1 medium onion till pink.
Add the paste from step 1, saute till oil seperates.

Add cooked
1 cup Chawali - Black eye beans. ( Pressure cooked it for 4-5 whistles with salt and water)
1 tbsp Malvani masala / Sambar powder / Goda masala - I use malvani masala
3 tbsp mild tamarind extract
1 tbsp jaggery

Simmer for 10 mins with sufficient water as per the consistency.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve with steamed rice or hot rotis/ phulkas.
Dinner sorted.
